Home Security: Installing the Right System

About Me

Home Security: Installing the Right System

When I bought my first home, the first thing that I did was install a new security system. That meant comparing quite a few residential alarm systems until I found the one with the features I really wanted. Five years later, I'm still happy with my choice. In my case, certain features were especially important. The ability to access the system remotely was a big plus. Since I live alone, a system that I could use to summon help if I became ill or sustained a nasty fall also mattered. If you are thinking of installing a new system, let me provide some food for thought. By deciding what features you really need, it will be easier to focus on systems that are worth your time and your money.

2 Things That Need To Be Done Before Your New Well Can Be Dug

If you live far enough out of town, then you probably use a well for water. If your well has started to go dry, then you are going to need to make sure that you have a way to get water to your house. Generally, that involves digging a new well. Getting your new well dug isn't as easy as just calling up a company and asking them to come dig in a particular place. There are several things that are going to need to be done in order to make sure that you get a well that has water.

Physical Survey

Before the well company comes out to dig, they are going to come out and look over your property. They are going to want to look around to see if they can find a place where water may be showing up naturally or where water may be more likely to show up. When they are looking at your property, they are also going to look at where the current well is to see if they can figure out why the old one is going dry to see if it can be repaired or to see if the reason that it's starting to fail would affect another well. The well company is also going to look at the terrain so they can make sure that they can use the best approach to where they want to dig the well. That way they can make sure that they can get their equipment to the site without damaging your property more than necessary.

Testing

Once they've found a spot that looks like it will be a good place for a well, the digging company will sink a test bore down. They are going to see if there is water, how far down it is, and if it's good. They will test the quality of the water to make sure that it's safe for you to drink. The water will be tested for various contaminants as well as any bacteria which may cause illness. Only after all the testing has been done will it be time for your well to be dug.

If your old well is starting to fail, then you need to have a well digging company like Elk Point Drilling Corp come in and help you either get the old one fixed or a new one dug so that you can continue to have water at your house.
